Digger Creek Ranch

Digger Creek Ranch is the classic coldwater trout flyfishing destination. The ranch is located at the foot of Mount Lassen in the historic Forward Valley. After fishing, relax while sitting on the decks overlooking our beautiful lakes, explore the beauty of the ranch, observe the abundant wildlife, or experience the beauty of Lassen Volcanic National Park, less than an hour's drive from the ranch.

The beauty of this area is really something to behold with its peace and tranquility. It is a real pleasure just to be on this ranch. Come on up and enjoy this beautiful part of the world.

The ranch covers over 600 acres in all, but the fishing is concentrated on the southern 200 acres. Digger Creek runs for approximately 2 miles along the southern border. This stream provides the ranch with wonderful year round fishing. You can expect cold water all summer long in the ranch waters coupled with comfortable summer air temperatures, which makes the ranch an excellent choice for summer fishing.

The Fishing

The fishing is mostly for rainbow trout, but there are some quality browns lurking about as well. The fish run up to 12 pounds and are not only gorgeous, but numerous and feisty. The abundance of cold water means great summer water temperatures. It's a rare day when there is not the chance for some dry fly fishing.

The 3+ acre Cookhouse Lake is nestled right off the deck of the lodge. Sight fishing is the name of the game, and with proper presentation you may land a trophy trout of up to 8 pounds!

Island Lake offers over 6 acres of trout filled water. This lake is deep and fish exceeding 10 pounds lurk below. Match the hatch and enjoy the catch!

Additionally there is a ¾ of a bile meander that snakes its way through the middle of the beautiful meadow connection Cookhouse Lake with Island Lake. A challenge awaits you as this fishing spot must be approached with stealth or your prize will fell. However, done just right, you'll be wrestling with another feisty trout.

Lodge

Our four bedroom, five bath Historic Cookhouse Lodge is located right on the shore of the Cookhouse Lake. The dining room, living room, and two of the bedrooms look out over the lake and the meadow below it. A spacious deck wraps all around the building, offering views from every side. The rooms are comfortable and all offer private baths. The kitchen has everything you will need to prepare meals or you can use the outdoor propane barbeque.

The "Cookhouse Lodge" is the original Forward Mill Cookhouse. Loggers and mill workers from the turn of the century to the mid-50's would receive three meals a day out of the cookhouse.
